So I ordered a fish for the first time, a cherub Pygmy angel, last Thursday. I noticed yesterday that it had white dots on its body and seems to have more today. I looked up possible diseases and might be ick or velvet. The weird thing is I don’t see any of the symptoms for both like rubbing against rock or swimming in a power head etc. It’s been normal and picking off rocks as well as eating. Sorry for the bad pictures but it’s still shy and I can only see the white in the light.

It is hard to tell from the photo. A basic idea is if it looks like it had salt from a shaker put on it it is most likely ich. If it looks more like a lightly “powered donut” then it is likely velvet.

I am sure someone with more experience can add more insight to what you are asking but I didn’t want you waiting and stressing too long.

Thanks! It’s more like a powered donut, definitely not like salt from a shaker, it doesn’t protrude like in the pictures for ick. I’ll look into treatments now
