Ok here’s the situation... I cycled my rock, 50 gallon tank was good to go.. I added 2 little blue hermit crabs... then ordered a few fish..(There is no marine fish store here, only freshwater so I have to order all my saltwater fish and supplies online)

I ordered 2 clownfish and 2 green chromis. 1 chromis arrived dead (shipping is just over 24 hours. They ship it that morning and I get it the next afternoon) so I ended up with 2 clowns and 1 chromis. I read that chromis need a group so I ordered 3 more plus they were supposed to send a replacement so I should end up with 5. After I ordered the fish, but before the shipment arrived... one clownfish stopped eating and died the next day. Other then not eating for a day she didn’t have any signs of illness until a few hours before she died she was breathing hard in the corner of the tank near the bottom. (The sane day the next fish arrived)

They only sent 3 and 1 was DOA, leaving me with only 3 total. Because these are the first fish and came from the same place the original came from, I put them in the display tank. These 2 shipments were all a week apart.

Out of the 2 chromis, one is much smaller (we call him the baby) and one is a fiesty bully (we call him the bully) the bully was nipping at everyone including the clown for about 3 days, the baby seemed really stressed and stayed in the bottom corner of the tank. We removed the bully on day 4 and put him in the sump until we can move him to a better place. Day 5 the original Chromis and the baby were acting strange and not free swimming both were just staying hidden. They do come up for food. (Meanwhile we ordered a tank to put the bully in and QT). This morning (day 6) the original chromis was hiding (he’s usually very active and comes sees us) the baby was swimming just above the sand and we noticed some white dots on his sides and his fins.... (looks exactly like freshwater ich)

Both fish ate this morning.... the clown however did not. He usually has a great appetite but now he’s not eating... I definitely have ich in there I’m sure... QT tank will be here in about 3 days. I do have buckets I can start TTM with and I also have MB that I bought in case I need it..

My question is... do I do TTM then use the MB as a final rinse in the QT tank? Do I just put them in the QT tank and dose that ? My display tank has a refugium and live rock so I’m going to have to keep the fish out of there for 72 days... and that’s fine I got a 20 gallon QT tank so it will be big enough for the fish for now.. I’m just confused with TTM and MB... I’ve had freshwater Before and I just removed the filter and dosed the main tank but now I have a refugium and stuff I can’t do that there.

So... what do I do?

Hi, sorry to hear your having troubles.

I've kept SW fish on and off for 30 ish years now, I always always qt. You tend to go that way after a wipe out .

If your sure it's ick then as you say you need to go fallow for 72 days, therfore if it were me I think I'd go straight to the copper treatment with all fish in QT. I believe that all the constant moving every 3 days with TTM will be to much stress for the little guys. then copper on top anyway.

I'm my experience copper is just the simplistic way to go with as good as qarentee as you'll get to be ick free. TTM is not a bad practice but since your now needing to wait that 72 days I'd run copper for the 30 days, built up to the correct a mount over a week, use carbon to remove the copper after 30 days, visual inspection for 2 weeks and if your clear that will be their temporary home until the 72 days us up.

I'm sure other will chime in with some great experienced ideas so see what suits you best.

Good luck with them

Ok thanks.. I've heard of copper when I read about how to get rid of it, however I don't know what to do... I live in Mainland China and I don't know where to get it. Finding anything for saltwater is impossible here so I have to look online and I don't know what I'm looking for. Is there a test to test for copper in the water so you know you used the right amount or? I'm gonna have to Google it more... I wrote that during my lunch time and when I came home, they all ate and now I don't see spots on anyone... I KNOW what I saw this morning... my daughter saw it too... I'm loosing my freaken mind! lol

I completely agree with stressing them out with the TTM right now... they have only been with me for a week and a half to half a week... especially the baby... the clown and the original Chromis is swimming fine but the baby is on the bottom of the tank hidden behind a rock.. without his white dots now...hmmm
