Well hello, I almost feel bad about starting another ich thread but here we go. Well every morning my male clown has white spots all over him and when I get home from school the big dots are gone but he does have small white dots and some whiteish patches. The big ones in the morning could be sand. Also the the clowns (mostly female) have been cleaning a certain area of the rock and acts like they might breed. Also my coral beauty which always has something on its face now has very tiny white dots all over her. No other fish seem to have anything. So I am assuming I have ich most likely. Fish are eating/acting fine now but I would assume that would change if nothing is done.

Well I guess I should probably set up a QT to treat and eliminate ich. I am lucky in one aspect that I have left over Christmas money to set up a QT since I am only 14. Though my parents will be less than thrilled when I tell them of my dilemma, but hey maybe they might donate to the cause:) Well here are where my questions come in.

1. My stock for this tank(55 gal) includes
-2 clowns
-coral beauty
-starry blenny(lucky is still pretty small)
-1 chromis
-1 orange spotted goby
So I was wondering if a 20 gallon tank would do or would I have to go to a 30 gallon

2. Would a big sponge filter and a HOB filter work fine along with a heater for this. Also would a filter with those bio wheels be better for ammonia.

3. I feel bad for the blenny, goby, and angelfish because of the lack of rock and sand for them. Could I add a peice of live rock or two from my sump to the tank or won't this rock be considered infected? Or could I add any fake plastic rock/coral. Or will PVC be the only thing

4. Do I need to buy a light(small budget) or will a lamp a foot away or so work fine

5. I am undecided on what to treat with (copper hypo etc) so some help on that would be appreciated.

Well I am probably missing somethings so please, any help will be appreciated

Thanks

20 gal would probably work for that bioload; obviously a 30 gal would be better. FYI; a 29 gal has the same footprint as a 20L if that helps.

You need a filter with bio-media capable of hosting nitrifying bacteria. A HOB with a bio wheel fits the bill, as does any Aquaclear HOB powerfilter because it utilizes a sponge in it's compartment. You will also need one of those "bacteria in a bottle" products to seed it: Bio-Spira, Seachem Stability or Dr Tim's Nitrifying Bacteria.

Rock/sand will absorb copper (if you choose to go that route), making it difficult to maintain a stable Cu level. Plastic rock/coral is fine so long as it SW safe, but PVC elbows are the more practical/economical option.

Lamp works fine.

Copper (Cupramine) is what most people use in this same situation. However, post some pics of the affected fish so we can be sure this is ich.

Here is the clown I'm sorry but it's impossible to get a pic of the coral beauty

Also would coppersafe and api test work that is what is available to my area

Yes. Therapeutic range for Coppersafe is 1.5 - 2.0 ppm, using the API copper test kit. Are those white dots I'm seeing below the spiny dorsal fin? If so, how long have they been in the same place on the fish?

Yes the spots in the pic are under the dorsal fin but the whole body is covered in these. I noticed them a day ago and they have gotten a little worse and the coral beauty now has the exact same kind of spots

Sounds like ich. Ramp the Cu up slowly (4-5 days) because of the angel.

Well I just called my LFS and they only have the seachem version and the api test kit so I geuss I will order the missing half to one of those two

Well jut revealed the news to my parents and boy where they shocked/ticked. They went off doing there,"own" research ha ha.

Maybe they will read your thread here! ;)

Ha yeah
Well I got the tank etc and ordered the seachem copper and the corresponding test kit
Thanks humble fish a lot for all the help
I will probably start a tank thread for myself to update how things are going because I don't really like doing that on the disease forums
Thanks again
