I’ve spotted ick in my fish tank about a week ago. I immediately went to my LFS and bought Polyp Lab Reef Safe Medic. I’ve used it up to this point but then yesterday I spotted ick yet again on my Royal Gramma and Blue Tang! I really don’t want my fish to die and I don’t have the space or money for a Q tank right now... help!

We need a closeup of the diseased fish for proper diagnosis. Unfortunately the only way to eradicate ich is to quarantine and treat. You can try feeding vitamin enriched foods with garlic to boost the fishes immune system, but you'll never fully be rid of the parasite.

Definitely a closeup pic. Blue Tangs/ Hippo Tangs a notorious for ich. I'm not the tank police by no means and your fish is really tiny right now, but I noticed your tank is a 46 gallon. You do realize how big they get right? Did your lfs' share that info with you? Live aquaria is a great source for suggested tank sizes & max growth sizes. Just sharing a little info with you.

Yes I’m planning on upgrading in the near future to a 125G,

I tried to take a closeup pic but the ick seems to have fallen off to reproduce... It looked like little white spots on the fins and body

White spots are pretty distinct and separate from each other on body, a little harder to see on fins but definitely there

Fish are still eating well and acting relatively normal so I’m not AS worried as of yet, just want to be cautious for the future

how old is this tank? did you add a bunch of fish at once? that looks like a lot of fish for a young tank. as others had mentioned your tank isnt big enough for those tangs. and im sure your fish would appreciate some more rocks for hiding

Polyp Lab Reef Safe Medic will not get rid of ich, it will just help manage it. you need to let tank be fallow, or TTM buy a cheap 40 breeder and set up a QT tank and treat fish with copper to eradicate the ich. leave tank fallow (no fish in tank) for 72-76 days to fully get rid of the ich in your display tank.

This tank is 1 month and a week old. I added fish gradually making sure my parameters were stable. I’m waiting to get payed so I can add more rock. I’m getting a 125G tank soon, before my tangs start to outgrow my current tank. Thanks for the advice about the ich!

One month is too soon for that many fish, that’s certainly not helping, unfortunately.

I echo the sentiments of proper quarantine you’ll need to make that investment these days to be successful.

Sorry you are dealing with ick...I know others will have excellent advice on treating the fish.
Quick question, are your rocks sitting on top of the sand? If so, you may want to consider getting them off the sand and on the bottom glass. The diamond goby and watchman (along with other fish and shrimp) will dig under the rock and may end up making the rocks collapse. If they fall over on the glass it could end bad, not to mention the fish could get crushed.

if the fish are still eating well, don't try too much stuff on them, they will stress out
