Hello,

I picked up a yellow tang a couple weeks ago from the lfs. They had it quarantined for a week before I got it With no problems. The fish eats voraciously. Even takes pellets but I still offer it algae 1 to 2 times a day. Even now it is active and picking algae off the rock. Today I noticed there are about 5 medium sized white spots randomly on its body. They look to big to be velvet to me but I’ve never had anything like this before. There is only a clown fish in there with it. The clown has been in there for months. all water tests read normal. I test several times a week. And tested today. My po4 is the only thing out of ordinary. It’s at about .15 to .2

you can see the spot just above it’s eye. The other side has several more.

Definitely not velvet, looks like crypto. Btw, a one week QT doesn't really mean anything. It's not long enough to treat anything and not a meaningful about of time as far as observational QT goes. IMO I would consider fish from that LFS to not be QT'd.

in that case keeping the water quality good and making sure it eats would be a good course of action? Maybe a cleaner shrimp? It is wild caught unfortunately. I tried for some time to get a tank raised one. So maybe it would take to a good cleaning?

Cleaner shrimp will do nothing for crypto or really any fish disease we commonly get. They are not able to remove microscopic ciliate parasites, they would be able to remove larger ectoparasites that don't burrow into the flesh. The white spots you see are not the actual parasites but the result of the parasite burrowing into the fish's flesh.

At this point you need to make a choice. Will you remove all of your fish and treat them as well as leaving the DT void of fish for 76 days? Or you could attempt to "manage" the ich with high quality foods, vitamins and pristine water. I always choose the former but that's me.

well I guess I’m setting up a qt tank. What’s the smallest I could get away with for 2 fish? Yellow tang and a clown. 30 gallon? If it’s only for 3 months and change. This gives me a good opportunity to rearrange me reef rock. I’ve been wanting to for a year now. Also is copper the go to for treating ick? I do have furan2 on hand in case of any secondary infections.

He is being difficult.. he is a really goofy fish and plays around a lot even when my face is there but the moment I bring my camera into view he bolts. I got a view of his other side... barely. Blue mushrooms for size comparison. There maybe an inch across. You can see two spots along his spine and one near his tail spike. Nothing on his fins like in those links you posted but it’s still early on.
