Yes I used it in several rounds of quarantine before I got pure chloroquine phosphate from diamondback pharmacy. I followed the directions that came with the bottle and it seemed to work well. I treat prophylacticly in QT but had a flame angel that had ick and ick shield worked great. I feel more confident with the pure chloroquine phosphate but if I had none available I would not hesitate to use ick shield in its place.Has anyone used the new spectrum ick shield medication for ick and velvet in quarantine.

If you are going to QT I would stick with the tried and true copper. I couldn’t imagine anything worse than having ich or velvet get into your DT because of s medication that is not proven to eradicate ich/velvet.
Well that’s where I’m at. I recently got back into the hobby after 15 yrs. never did a quarantine. I set one up. Being that I never used copper I was tossing the idea of cp. something about dosing copper scares me. The whole reason why I’m doing qt is because I didn’t take it serious until I had to go
just to clarify, chloroquine phosphate is proven to eradicate ich/velvet. The only question is the purity of chloroquine in ick shield. No studies to my knowledge have been done to confirm the purity/concentration of chloroquine in ick shield but I did use it to successfully treat ich on a flame angelIf you are going to QT I would stick with the tried and true copper. Copper Power has sort of changed the game on this concern from everything I have read. Used to be Cupramine or something harsh like that was the only option, but Copper Power seems to be very easy on the fish.something about dosing copper scares me

I personally use Chloroquine Phosphate. Seems to be the most tolerated medication for eradicating Ich and Velvet.
But most importantly read the fish compatibility chart to make sure that Copper or Chlorquine is recommended or not for your type of fish in QT.
It is one of the sticky's on the front page of this subforum.Where do I find this chart my fallow period is and I want to start adding fish.

Humblefish recommends to medicate every fish with both Copper or Chloroquine, and then also General Cure. This will eliminate almost everything you need to be concerned about.
Doesn't GC contain Metro? Or are you saying that it may not be sufficient to cover certain internal parasites?To really cover the most common infectious agents, you need to add extra doses of metronidazole between the two General Cure doses.

Did not know this, thanks for the headsup on it. Is it ok to do GC in the water column (for flukes) AND in their food (for int. parasites)? Or should I really only be doing the internal parasites step if I see signs of it? I hate to overdo it with fish as a general QT procedure.I'm specifically talking about uronema. GC does contain metro, but 2 doses of GC 5-7 days apart (the standard treatment for flukes) is not enough to ensure that uronema will be killed off. You add an extra 2 doses of just metro between the two GC doses, and then at least 1 more metro dose after the second GC dose, to be sure of getting uronema.
Also, GC in the water column won't get internal parasites. For internal parasites and worms, the fish need to be fed food laced with GC, by using Focus to bind it.

What is the frequency and duration of feeding the laced food?You can safely use GC in the water and in food, together.
Some people skip GC in food unless they see white stringy feces.
This is reasonable, and if you see signs later, you can even treat them in the display tank if necessary.
Exception to this might be sand-sleeping wrasses;
they have a high incidence of intestinal parasites, so I wouldn't skip the medicated food with them.
