Just received my results on my first ICP test. Flagged for low iodine. Should I try to raise it to 0.06, as suggested from ICP? Any other suggestions from these results?

One other thing, how do I figure out what my salinity is? My Hanna says 1.026, but I’m not sure how to analyze this reading. I’m new to this! Thanks!

Natural seawater for iodide is .06 ppm. That is what I try to stay close to. As far as salinity, I don't see it listed. I am guessing it is in ppt. If that is the case 35ppt is really close to 1.025 sg. You may want to find the source of the silver though.

I thought maybe the salinity could be figured out by the sodium? It’s says 11664.98. Interesting about the silver.

How did you calculate that?

NSW has Na+Mg+Ca concentration of 12900 mg/L and salinity of 35ppt. His concentration of the big 3 is 13439 mg/L which implies salinity of 36.5.

However, I wouldn’t personally use an ICP test to measure salinity. Just calibrate your refractometer with a reference solution every so often.

*Every time you use it ;)

It’s a fine experiment, but I did not find it useful to dose iodide.

it can be figured out from the sum of all of the main ions, but not sodium alone.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been researching dosing Brightwell Lugol’s to bring my levels up to 0.06. I’ve found that if not extra careful, it could be detrimental. As with any additive, I guess.
