Looking for a ID on these brown spots, it’s essentially covered the rock work and now popping up on the back wall. I’ve been told it’s cyno , some type of sponge, turf algae, and maroon coralline. None of them seem to be correct.

Some kind of hard encrusting sponge or algae maybe. Can you scrape it? what is its texture? do snails eat it? either way, limpits and/or chitins and/or urchins would probably eat it if you were looking for a CUC solution

Yea I can scrape it off with some effort. And nothing I have in the tanks east it. Can’t really describe the texture. Kinda velvety? Idk.

Lobophora algae I'd say. Super difficult to remove, is a hitchiking algae, once eradicated, can't return. A pic under whites to confirm would be nice, but it resembles exactly what I had when I faced lobophora.
