I blows off easy but then will come straight back.

Thanks in advance.

Your tank is still very young, You will get all types of algae growths in your first year. They come and go till your system is stable. Did you cure your rocks?

Yes rocks where from a system that had leaked rocks where rinsed and kept in trash can with heater and powehead and water changes. For maybe a month.
Parameters where within limits when I changed over.
I'm aware of algea blooms just never dealt with one like this.
Figured I'd see if anyone had anymore insight other than wait it out soon nice that's what I was doing.
Thanks for the prompt response.

Hey guys! I happen to be on campus now so on my phone. I can't see well with this.
My only thought until I can get back home is cryphosytes but I think I see GHA also. I will look closer when I am back.
What color are you seeing?

If there is chrystophytes then they feed mainly on silicates am I correct.

Hey sorry this thread got buried in my alerts.
There are over 1000 species and not all of them are silicate structured. Now by looking at the pictures I am about 90% certain that you have a species active. This can not be confirmed without a microscope.
If it blows off the rock than this is key to rough ID. Be warned that when you blow these around in reality you are spreading them. I recommend hobby felt socks.

Yes it easily removed but will be back like I never removed t in the next morning. It's is a dusty brown colour. There are longer clumps forming that look almost like green hair algae but they are not green the same very light brown.

I tried blowing it off a use felt socks and now it's everywhere.

A dusty brown is not good.
That is a sign of possible dinoflagellates. This would have to be seen under a scope.

Ugggh I'm afraid that's what I'm getting ready to have an outbreak of. So I guess no water changes 3day blackout along with some Carbon and gfo would take care of Dino's?

I really would put this under a scope before stressing the tank with a blackout. I am not a supporter of blackouts as I have found this is a method to control population size, not to eradicate them.
The pictures I am seeing just does not have the color of traditional dino's.

I'm with you. I like my sticks too much to stress with blackouts.
I've had dino before this doesn't look like it ut again I'm at a loss.
I've never had excessive nutrients and parameters have always been in check.
