ID and help please?

Hi,
Left the house for a couple hours, come in and straight away check the tank as usual. Find this to what looks to be coming out the sand bed and up the glass around 6-8” or so.
many ideas what it is? Should I be worried or need to do anything or can it just be left alone?
Seems to be moving along its ‘body’ in all different parts and looks kind of orange?

That is weird. Does it move on its own or just flow in the current?
Might be some type of tube worm similar to Medusa or spaghetti, but I’ve never seen one like that.
Other thought is some type of algae but I can’t say I’ve seen one like that either.

Best guess is an algae growing up the glass.

I don’t think it would be an algae, it’s now come back down the glass and tmgoing back into the sandbed about 4” from where it’s coming out.

Looks like a type of derbesia algae
use an algae scraper or edge of an old credit card and lift the root and discard. You must get rid of root or it will be back

Watch the video from 54 seconds to the end and looks like strand is separated then joins back together.on piece I outlined.
Unless it trickery on video with light not hitting that part or something .
But if isn't and that's what happenned then it's lots individual things making one big thing if get me.

Edit : just re- watched video and yeah one piece re- tracts then extends out to meet up with piece on its own.thats freaky and I would be digging it up out sandbed and putting in a container and seeing how it acts and research it

Your correct it does rejoin. Am not sure if lots of separate things or not, what would act as a collective in this way? I can’t see how well the resolution is on the video but on mine you can see it’s pretty much in constant movement in both directions along the length of it with the end going which ever way

So in person you can see it seperate and re- join ?
I dont actually know as not very experienced with reef tanks and all the critters tbh but it amazes me all the critters I absolutely love it .wouldn't of thought an algae to detach then re-attach itself but nature is amazing so who knows ^_^ but let's tag #reefsquad and @Mibu helped me alot.same vetteguy very experienced but he already in thread .

Ok great if you can get op a definitive answer that be great but I'm amazed that can attach and detach at will to form a collective so to speak .

It behaves like a colony of ants. I know the ocean is full of wonderous things but when they suddenly appear like this in a tank and seemingly as a collective I kind of say to myself "thank goodness that's not in my tank".

Labyrinthula, are a colony type bug. Most critters and gobies will eat them.

Any idea on what this is?

These are located by my power head. There are 4 of them with this one being the first one and it's about 3/4" long. They seem to have branching translucent tube like arms. They apparently to move as one has moved about 3" from the first one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

No one claims they are harmful, so I wouldn't worry. Until you find someone saying other wise.

What I read on Google searching Labyrinthula is kind of slime mold that linked to wasting diesese on sea grasses in 1930's and link above mentions the sea grass thing also.and there 13 species I read and one of them said kind of mold but maybe was just that one species .
Guy in thread mibu shared said would keep in tank and just see what it does,he didn't post back days or months later saying killed everything so maybe caused him Jo problems like someone else in thread said they had in their tank also.
Very cool critter indeed ^_^

Thanks for all the help u lot! Put me at ease abit now.
Is definitely a new one to me especially how it acts.
I will leave it/them? alone and see how it goes. if anything goes wrong I’ll be sure to update on here for others.
