Not long ago I posted about something in my sump and was told it looked like sponge and was a good filter feeder.

Today I noticed more of a similar thing in my main display and it seems to be establishing itself all over the tank at a rate I feel like is too much. Attached are pictures of what’s in the display now on the rock. Are these both the same thing and if it is sponge how do I get rid of it if it gets out of hand?

thank you.

Looks like sponge to me and beneficial. Many sponges feed of DOC and will grow to the amount of food available and only a few that do well in aquaria also do well in bright light. The only sponge I've run across that's problematic is a black sponge that does well in bright light and is invasive, growing over corals (there's a couple black species I've come across that don' bother corals). Most sponges can easily be removed by siphoning if they bother you.
