Just figured out how to start a thread on my phone[emoji28] Yay!

Need help with I'd and Treatment with my purple tang. Did not eat that i could see. He's the boss in the tank but is keeping to his self in a cave so will not be able to catch him. Best pics I could get. Wasn't there yesterday.

Please advise what it is and medication . Thank you!

Can't tell from the picture, is the white area raised up like a puff of cauliflower or cotton, or is it smooth? How long has the tang been in the tank? Anything new or anybody new added lately? Aggression by anyone?

Thanks for the reply. It's 2 distinct spots. Raised. Thought i saw some fine cotton like stuff but can't tell. No new fish. He's my oldest and the boss.

Hubby says he thinks it smoother but something is protruding from the white spot/area .

This appears like it might be from blunt trauma, did a rock fall over or are there any inhabitants that could have caused this? Did it suddenly appear?

Agreed - this looks like an injury of some sort.
Epsom salts (USP grade, no additives) may be able to help with swelling, otherwise I'd say observation over the next day or three.

+1 ^^^
1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of aquarium water. Repeat only once, if necessary. Use only “USP” grade Epsom salt.

X3 on trauma and also HLLE.

Soak his food in selcon or vita chem, offer different kinds of nori and many frozen offerings soaked in the above for the HLLE, and Epsom salt for the injury. Watch carefully for redness/signs of infection.

"OK, thanks everyone! " No rock fall. There is a smaller yellow tang and a medium sized magnificent foxface in the tank. One could have caused it if a tussle. They've been together for a year+ As I said, purple tang is the boss and if he got fiesty, the injury happened. I'll be doing the epsom's . He had HLLE when I got him years ago. Never has completely disappeared for any length of time. I use selcon and offer lots of variety.

What is the length of time that the Epsom Salt will be effective? Also, is there an impact on the magnesium level after using?

Thank you Big G! I'll read it! Lol, I've told Randy he's not old...I could be his mother pretty easily!
