Got this guy coming in with some sun corals I just bought. Good or bad?

Sharp claws so off the bat it isn’t good for your tank lol. Looks hairyish, I’d guess a gorilla crab but don’t take my word on the species. I would take it out or sump it if I were you though.

Generally with crabs if you find it and don't know what it is or don't specifically buy it I would never put it in. Its a huge hassle to get them out sometimes and they can do a lot of damage before they're caught. Usually more of a nuisance than any potential benefit they might have, might being the operative word. We just got a stone crab out that likely had hitchhiked on our live rock but only after it managed to kill several inverts and a few fish.

What do you do with the crab if you don't want it? Lol afraid to know answers

Depends on the type of crab. If you have a sump I'd toss it there or see if anyone wants it. If you have fish that like crab you could freeze it and thaw and feed later. We are likely going to release ours somewhere locally but right now we just have it sitting in a tank we were quarantining some fish in previously.

Edit: Thought it was worth noting, ONLY release animals that you can 100% guarantee are local. Even then it can be dangerous to release animals to the wild even if they are local as they could have has something passed on to them from a non local species that might have been kept with it.

You could put it in a jar and then into the freezer, I have heard that is a pretty good way to do it, or just stick it in your sump. You could give it to your LFS, someone could want it.

I really want to give it a home or release in ocean. Thing is, I'm 45 mins away from ocean and no store would want him. Lol

I don't have the heart to kill him. :(

I wouldn't recommend releasing it in the ocean. You can always put it in your sump like others have suggested or giving to your LFS.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend releasing. The only reason we've released stuff is that it is stuff we have caught ourselves and know where it came from or in our current predicament is a Florida stone crab and we'd really hate to kill it. I agree that you should check and see if your LFS would take it, even if its just for them to kill and feed to their livestock.

You could also check with your local reef society to see if there's a crab collector in the bunch. It seems as though "pest" tanks are taking on a life of their own.
