Hi,

I am specifically interested in the Zoa/Paly in the foreground, although if you'd like to have a go at the others that's cool too!

I bought this under the name 'Nightmare Zoa', although reading and searching I am seeing it looks a little different to a Nightmare from the images I've seen. I thought it looked closer to one image I saw labelled as 'Campfire Paly', but not an expert so thought I would ask here!

Appreciate your time!

Thank you both.

These have grown from a single polyp in August. They spread like wild(camp)fire it would seem!

Looking harder, I don’t think these are campfire... they don’t have the green mouth...

Still not certain what these are... they are certainly growing well!

It gets tricky with red speckly-colored zoas. Its quite possible you have a Ko nightmare. There's also ones that trade as Ultimate ko nightmares ( I know... these names). Check out #5 and let me know what you think.

ooh ooh I know!!

Their Zooanthids! Never got into the fancy names we name corals. All the fancy names do is drive up the price. A normal 5$ a polyp zoa, give it a fancy name, it's now 60$ a polyp.

Very clever.

Fact is the name game has gotten stupid over the years- especially recently, especially with zoas- but there's also far more strains and colors available now then when I started back in 1997. In the last 10 years, the last 5 in particular, stuff has traded heavily on names. When I started working at a fish shop in high school every thing sold as green/orange/blue zoanthid rock. Now a days I have something like 140 strains, how would you have me identify without some sorta name?

Does this rise to the level of price gouging? Occasionally. Does it suck finding and old sale thread for 2014 where the zoa I'm looking for is $50 for 2p vs $120? You bet. But, because the barriers to the hobby are lower (and there's more people than ever keeping reefs) that's just something I've come to accept as long as I'm looking for a very specific zoa. For zoa collectors this is the rabbit hole we chose to go down.

Good looking polyps for sure, however I need to see a frag in person so that I can confirm this info. I’ll PM you my shipping address!

+1 on KO Nightmares
