ID Help on a Wrasse.

Okay wrasse pros...i just recently got a flasher that has some great color. I was waiting for a really nice one to come in and i got lucky. Personally i wanted a McCoskers and i feel like this guy is a McCoskers mix. I still am very new to the wrasse world but i have done a bunch of research. The white belly is what is throwing me off. Honestly i feel like the Carpenter and McCoskers decided to have a kid. I also have a feeling the long fin wrasse is a possibly but his bottom fins arent that long.

Unfortunatley i wasnt able to catch him flashing...but he has yellow and deep blue on his dorsal fin with spots. His body is red in the front that fades to a nice orange to the rear.

So what do you guys think? Sorry the pics arent better but he is fast lol

No clue bro. never seen one like him before.... Put a mirror in front of the tank and see if he will flash then take his pic. :wink:

My guess would be a longfin fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis)

Not the greatest pic in the fish database, but if you google it, they often have the white underside like that.

+1 to the above ID. I have one and it's a tad on the mean side, but they don't get too big.

Thanks everyone. I was just feeding and got to see his bottom fins better. Definitely a long fin fairy. Very cool fish and sick colors. I will try to get better pics later.

Not a flasher at all unfortunately.

Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis is correct.

It's a sub-male right now, hence why the lower fins are not that long. Being moderately aggressive is normal for the species as well. Often doesn't play well with other Cirrhilabrus.

This is good to know....although right now he seems super docile. My percula has shown his dominance in the tank and the wrasse doesnt seem to care LOL.
2 questions
Would he get along with a flasher?
Do Fairy wrasse flash like flashers?
Sorry for the newb like questions

Depending on tank size, you could add a flasher but if the tank is small I wouldn't add another wrasse. Fairy wrasses do not really flash like a true flasher wrasse but they will flare their fins every now and then.

Agree, depends on the tank size.

Most fairy species do just fine with flasher species, but it's always a YMMV when mixing wrasses.

If the tank is large enough, you should be able to pull it off just fine.
