Does anyone know what this is growing on the rock?

Yeah, gotta love cellphone pictures.

It's kind of whitish/opaque if that helps any. I've got it growing on about 2 or 3 rocks where it doesn't get much light (base, backside, etc).

Sounds like sponge. They are filter feeders. Nothing to worry about unless you see them getting close to corals.

I am not sure. It is possible he was hiding in some live rock.

He is extremely small and I have had my live rock for a long time. Not sure if I should throw him in my tank or not

I would leave him be for now. He looks quite small and fragile. Just keep an eye on him.
