The pictures are a bit fuzzy on this end. But it looks like the object has fuzz or hair on the surface. Is this correct?

I picked it up with tweezers and discovered on of my hermit crabs underneath it. I think it was an cowry shell that much have been in the sand and he was evaluating it for a possible new home. It looks pretty similar to pictures of them and it doesn't seem to be alive at all.
