Hi all
My sand is now like this. The aquarium is sort of new, around the 6 month mark. I got my forst akgae in pretty late around rocks and all and all seems sorted out or on its way.
The sand though is now like this. Is this troublesome? Or not to worry? Also, what exactly is it?

Looks to be diatoms, should eventually go away on their own but I would consider upping your clean up crew. Some cerith and nassarius snails will begin to put a dent in the algae and also till the sand

Nassarius don't eat diatoms, they're just scavangers. They will help stir up the sand bed. Certihs, Astreas, and Trochus will eat diatoms.

I thought trochus ate only on gass and rocks. Sand as well?

They will eat diatoms on rocks and glass, they can eat it on sand as well but they aren't able to move around as well, same with astreas. Ceriths are usually my go to for diatoms on sand.

Great time to get your pod population going, they will help with diatoms. The diatoms feed on silicates and when the silicates are gone so are the diatoms.
