Can anyone I'd this red and blue stuff between my sand and glass

I have to disagree, respectfully of course.Coralline is an encrusting type of algae and it is exceedingly rare to see it in any other color morph than the purplish maroon we see so very often.Cyanobacteria fits the description perfectly.Shades of greenish/yellow with that maroonish color without the crust like build up of coralline.I would suggest something that could stir your sandbed around IE:sandsifting stars, nudibranchs, sea cucumbers and a species of sand dwelling snell.

I say most likely green and red cyano, but could be coraline algae. You'll know for sure if you touch it. Cyano is powdery or leathery. Coraline is very hard and will flake.

It was easy. Given the requirements of Cyano. Never seen cyano living under the SB.
Coralline (red) epiphytes (Pink is Melobesia and purple is Smithora)

What does that even mean?

The green is cyano without doubt IMO. Probably the red too. Plenty of light hitting it there by transmittance from the glass.

Since they've been around almost as long as the planet, I generally don't sell cyano short on where it can or can't show up. How many environmental conditions do you think they have adapted to in almost 4 billion years? :)

P.S. As long as that's the extent of the cyano in the tank, I would do nothing. A little can be healthy IMO. However, if it spreads elsewhere, you'll want to take some action to eliminate the root of the problem.

P.P.S. I think someone mentioned that we only see one color of coraline or something like that earlier. I'll vouch there are at least two or three that I've seen all in the same tank...not always all present in all tanks of course. Pink is probably the most common. From Wikipedia's page: "The colors of these algae are most typically pink, or some other shade of red, but other species can be purple, yellow, blue, white or gray-green."
