Any ideas..forgive my ignorance if it's an easily identified thing

This looks similar but more mature. From National Geographic.
 
I am pretty confident they are tunicates which often show up on uncured LR. Tunicates have a wide of array of coloration and shapes. I can see the inhalant siphons in the image, with a pink pharyngeal basket. I would love to see some images at different angles to be sure.;Shy

The thing that perplexs is me is I can not make out an exhalant siphon. If they are not tunicates my next guess would be the egg husks of some invert.
 
I'm jealous lol, they seem to be tunicates I saw some similar looking things growing on a dock while I was snorkeling in the Florida keys and a lady said thats they were.
