I got this coral as a birthday gift back in May at my LFS. I remember telling him I was looking for something "different" for my Bday. I also said I'm interested in pink, orange, and red and then this coral caught my eye. He had said it wasn't really for sale, it was a trade in, its recovering as the origional owner wasn't able to care for it. Said it was a high end chalice. Anyway, I got it for free that day. YAY for my Bday!

I could tell died back a lot. The coralites were showing through the flesh. And the flesh receded back so each head was separate from colony. It was rough. Well I've successfully been caring for it since then, and it's still doesn't look like any high end chalice I've seen. I've been thinking maybe this isn't a chalice and he miss ID'd it. The fleshy walls are much thicker and the almost all of the old dead coralite is covered now. The tentacles are out almost 100% of the time. It's an aggressive eater. And gets mad like a pagoda when moved. Likes full light.

I'm going to take a stab at Aussie mini scolymia. I have only found one picture of a mini scoly that looks close on the Internet.

So what is it please?

Very difficult to say but first to understand is to verify if it s a colony or single one
Just touch it gently in a side if it close completely also other side this exclude scoly or other single polyp

Here are a couple pictures of when I fist got it.

I thought scolymia's have babies under the rim. Similar to acans, but slower?
