So I just bought this tank and found this in the sand. Is it just rock, is it coral? Is it dead?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Looks like it was Favia coral or Acan that is nearly dead, there is still some tissue but I doubt it will make it.

Try to spot feed if it still has enough energy. If you can get it to eat keep feeding and it could slowly recover. Might have to take it out of the tank and put it in a small container for feeding and leave some food on it for awhile as it will not want to use any energy to feed. So lots of patience and luck.

Looks like a war coral (favites) skeleton. If there's still meat on the bone, there's always a chance. Doubt it will feed when it's that shape. Try checking it out at night and see if extends any feelers.
