I was sold some "nassarius snails" by a LFS that I am 99% certain ate my new cleaner shrimp. The only other resident is a goby and some lps.

Are these in fact whelks or some other predator? Gonna exile them to the sump ASAP pending replies

Looks like a speckled nassarius snail. They are carnivorous.
Ok, what to do with them besides sump exile where they might clog my return line? Dont want to be inhumane and kill them but they have no place in my tank.

There is no snail that I am aware of that could catch and kill a cleaner shrimp. More likely your cleaner shrimp died for whatever reason and being that nassarius snails are scavengers they did exactly what you put them in the tank to do, clean up.

I don’t believe these will go after your shrimps. If kept well-fed, they will do their job a CUC. Typically they’ll eat leftover bits of food that have fallen onto the sand.

Fair, it was recently added so maybe it died and they just went to work. I'll keep an eye on them nonetheless

That is a
Spiral babylonia snail
Babylonia spirata
Family Babyloniidae

Sump him.

Are you sure the shrimp is dead and your not looking at a shed exoskeleton? After shedding sometimes they will hide out for a dayor so to harden back up.

Do they shed their antennae? If snails consumed it there wouldn't be anything left right?
