Hi all.

I've just spotted this guy in my tank. Looks juvenile... But I have no idea where he's come from or how he's come about! I have 2 peppermint shrimp but he doesn't seem to be a spawn from them, looks too different with he's one larger claw.

Any ID would be appreciated. If he IS juvenile, then that would emply there are parents somewhere in my tank. For which I didn't know about them being there!

Cheers

Pistol shrimp.of some sort would be my guess.
Thanks for the ID. I was thinking something alike... I have heard some clicking from the tank .... Does anyone have any tips on how old this guy is likely to be? He's quite small maybe half an inch?

He's really cute. Maybe you could get him a watchman goby.

Are these shrimps potentially a threat to my peppermints and/or my fish? I only have a nano tank so small clowns, firetail goby and a small Fairy Wrasse.

I've never had one bother anything.. they are mostly "blind" Good scavenger and when I had one, the "clicks" would always make me smile, knowing that he was doing ok.. Get a watchman and see if they will pair up..

I have tiny fish too. Mine never bothers anything.

I have heard some clicking in my tank to but haven't seen anything like that (yet) is it possible that I have one too?
It is possible.. It is a very distinct click - you should be able to find a youtube video documenting the sound. I got one in my TBS live rock on Tank 3.0 and bought a bonded pair (goby and shrimp) for tank 2.0.

Thanks everyone for the advise/pointers and ID.

I'll let him back into the main tank then.

Cheers. [emoji482]

I used to have one years ago and the bastaldo would drag all the hermit shells to his burrow. I never caught him killing hermits but there must have been 100 shells in his hole when I moved the tank.

They are mostly harmless I believe.

Id go get a shrimp goby asap. Idk what fush you have but if the shrimp is as small as you say, i know someone that had his tiny pistol shrimp eaten by a clown goby. If ya get a shrimp goby they can watch each others back. I have 3 pistol shrimp in my 75 gallon. I have 2 candy cane pistol shrimp w/2 barbershop gobys. And 2 wheelers gobies w/1 tiger pistol shrimp.

It sounds like glass cracking. Scared the crap out of me the first time I heard it.
