Hi
Can someone please ID this coral?
Its in my qt, the guy I bought it from couldn't give me the name.
Should I feed it somehow duribg the 76 days of qt?
Thanks
Those are Palys.
Unfortunately, those are some of the ugliest variety and a rapid invader. Some people call them "Texas trash" palys.
If you are going to put up with the potentially deadly poison of palytoxin you should get some that are much prettier and slightly slower to invade every corner of your tank.
Sorry about that. [emoji53]
We have a bunch of different palys in our tank and I think they are beautiful. [emoji846]
I was working out doors last summer to smash up one of the Grandis rocks with a mallet and brick chisel so I could have a few smaller fragg's.
Never had a headache quite like that one before.
Very, very, very minor difficulty in breathing but it was noticeable.
Total exposure probably 10 minutes.
Got them back under water as quickly as possible and added a small amount of carbon in the tank to help.
Seriously, you need to respect the danger with these.
I was wearing eye protection goggles but no gloves. No open cuts on my hands. (Lol, probably a first)
At a minimum I would always wear eye protection working with these guys.
Their poison is something you need to respect.
You may be able to find paly toxin in some Zoa's and other creatures but nothing concentrates it quite so effectively as these beautiful monsters. Seriously!
Search for Grandis, Captain America, Pandora, purple death(?), plenty of others.
A 2 tone green with looong tenticals.
Even Cinnamon is much prettier than the ones in the picture.
There is another "trash" paly that is similar to the picture. A yellowish center fading to olive green outside and nice long tentacles.
Skip that 1 as well.
A 6" size rock of it smells absolutely horrible when you take it out of the tank and the guy working in the tank catching our latest fish had a rash on his hand afterwards.
If you are going to discard your rock of those palys I would triple bag it and throw it in the trash with at least a handfull of carbon. [emoji53]
Get it from the tank water into the first bag with carbon quickly and seal it.
I would be happy to send you a few small fraggs of different versions this Spring.[emoji846]
Your tank deserves better than those palys in the picture. [emoji846]
