Hey guys

So I have this sponge around my return to prevent the drilled holes from spraying many bubbles in the tank... every week it builds up like this around and on the sponge, and I don’t know what type of Algae it is really... I find lots of pods hiding around in their so it’s kind of cool, like a mini refug loll... it gets blown away easily and stays strongly around the edges, but in the middle of the sponge it’s more slimy almost..

Anyway.. can someone help me identify this? And if I should worry about it? I do clean it when I do water changes, comes back exactly like this. Iit’s about 6 inches from my lights which I’m sure is contributing to its fast growth..

It’s not found anywhere else in my tank. I mostly have brown algae on sandbed that just recently started due to bad t5’s, otherwise there’s is none. If you want better pics let me know :)

Thanks!

Hi , it kinda looks like cyno .. but I’m not total sure let’s see what my friends in #reefsquad think about it !!

I will go with cyano on this.

Thanks for your input guys

I ended up just removing the sponge completely , perhaps that was the reason my sand bed kept getting layers of algae sometimes

Let’s see what happens in a few days
