So it looks like a cotton ball to me. Is this a sponge? It's definitely growing out of the substrate. It looks like eggs in the "stalk" part. Anyway any ideas?

That's pretty wild. Almost looks like a egg sack. I'll be interested to hear if anyone actually knows what it is.

Please list fish and inverts, it's an egg mass. I am inclined to think Damsel.

I have 4 sea horses and 5 Ochre Cardinals - so they are live bearers and would be ruled out. I also have a one-spot blenny, a clown blenny, a yasha gobby with a pistol shrimp, and a rain ford's goby. I have two red line cleaner shrimp. I have various gorgonians, macro algae, a few soft corals and sponges. I have a few hermits and Cerith snails.

Hmm any sea slugs/nudibranchs?

No idea, but you could get a jar of saltwater(or tiny tank), run an airstone for a few days scrape it off and into the jar - see what hatches.

Baby critters dont always do well in reef tanks due to a variety of reasons (e.g. filters, predation).
