Anyone have an ID on this? Stowaway from my very first purchase of coral, clove polyps.

Type of palythoa, green button polyp. P mutuki. Good light, moderate flow, to keep algae from over covering it. Dont touch them, carry palytoxin.
I actually have the same coral in my tank on purpose lol.
Good beginner coral. :)

Thanks guys! I've had since August and they haven't multiplied at all, just grown in size.
They looked pretty dead on the rock they came on, had no color and were hidden underneath the clove polyps.

I have lots of zoas & palys so I'll be keeping these, thanks again!

I agree. Wear gloves and eye protection when you are in the tank. Don't breathe the tank fumes. Don't touch you body nose eyes mouth eyes until you wash your hands. I have gotten rashes and topical skin irritations from mine. They are pretty though.

They also are pretty aggressive to other Palys/Zoas...at least in my tank. They have stung some close by and cause them to close up. I'm investigated how to get rid of mine. They look great, but once they start growing take over.

I had one large and 3 small, two months ago. Now I have 5 large and a few small ones...
Plus they are on a live rock shared by other corals, so I cannot isolate them.

I will have to break the rock, I'm not going to risk life & death removing them individually. Unless someone has a less lethal way?

I would be weary of a chemical that killed them as could nuke the tank if the palytoxin was released after decom and infected fish and other corals.

They scalpel off easily as long as your careful and wear gloves, goggles, and a face mask.
Latter 2 are incase it squirts, mouth nose and eyes are covered. The toxin is dangerous yes, but with proper protection the risk is minimal.

Use a disposable scalpel from a pharmacy and do all the work on disposable area like on top of painting plastic. When done throw everything away. If the corals they are near have aggressive defenses they might also keep it contained.
