Came on live rock for my new 55 gallon. I also got two really big sand sifting stars so that's pretty good. There's a really random piece with several zoa polyps, but they are still angry. They'll get over it soon enough. Can't wait to see!

Depending on how new and how large that rock is, you could just throw it in boiling water to kill them off, or let em bake in the sun for a week.

It's big, but as far as I can tell, there are only two of them. One is much smaller. I'll just grab a peppermint shrimp and watch to make sure it gets taken care of.

Never EVER boil live rock.

If shrimp don't do it, if you can remove the rock dip it in RODI water and wait for it to come off. well always work for me.

Never Ever. Fumes produced can be deadly. Never cook rock either.
I said throw it in boiling water. And I did not say sit there and sniff it. And I've done this enough to say its pretty darn safe to do.

Ive done it enough to say it can be done. Don't sit there and sniff the darn thing, throw it in a bucket of boiling water......... Yes, it will kill all the stuff in it. Don't get a straw and snort the fumes. Cmon guys, lil common sense here.

Hobbyist with asthma and underlying conditions have been hospitalized after either boiling rocks or cooking them. The fumes through out the residence were enough, no one stood over and woofed it up with a straw. Best to advise to error on the side of caution and safety than to be right.

This is just one thread of caution:

It can be a lot more dangerous than what you might think. We're not taking about standing directly in the vapors. There are plenty of things which could be vaporized and become very toxic if inhaled even in small amounts.

I ended up buying a peppermint shrimp. He was snacking on a smaller one last night, so I'll watch it to make sure he gets them all.

If there are any pally toxins or others oceanic toxins present on rock, boiling turns into steam and make it airborne causing great harm to respatory system or other mucus membranes. DONT DO THIS.

I have had luck with peperment shrimp. But had to add 3 for them to get the big ones. If you can get a colony of bergia nudis they reportedly work too.

Good luck

Peppermint shrimp 1, aptasia 0. One shrimp, four kills. The shrimp now has a name. Gunny.
