Got this from my LFS a Month ago and he Said it was either an H. Mag. or BTA he couldnt tell since it was 4cm at the time! Does anyone know which it is?

I would be hesitant to buy from a LFS that did not know the difference, either way it's a failing anemone. Too far gone to make an accurate ID without a better specimen or images.

Here is another picture.. 2 weeks later.. Sometimes the mouth opens like in this picture but it is usually closed..

Yes I am feeding it with mysis everyday since I got it, some days It doesnt respond and some days It eats everything. Simply spray some on it in case its hungry while feeding the fish. Regarding the light, it sat there tucked away from the lights for 3 weeks before yesterday when it came out into the light. I have 200W full range LED lightning for my 45G tank. Think it would be sufficient for It if it wanted more.

Trex you said you where 99,999% sure it was a BTA, thing is that I have tried to find any picture at all that has this coloration for a BTA but haven´t found one. While it is easy to resemble it to Purple base H.Mag.

Well I guess in the end the only way to be sure is waiting for it to grow and see what happens. I was only looking for some information about what tell tail signs they both have. :)

This is from about 10 years ago, so not the best picture. I had an E. quadricolor that was basically the same color (( base that is ))

To me, I didn't even concentrate on the color; the white lines near the mouth. The shape of the mouth, and the fact that its foot was in a crack/hole, as oppose to a flat surface lead me to my ID. Plus, keeping E. quads for numerous years.

Did you acclimate it to your lights?
Those rocks look new, how long has your tank been set up?
What are your water parameters? (( with numbers please ))
Are you using RO/DI water? If so, what is the TDS?

Okey, Thanks for the picture! I didnt acclimate more Than only leaving the blue light on for the first 16h. It ran strait to the shades in a crack in the rock so I turned on the normal light schedule. Yes the tank was only 3 months old when I Bought it, so it was really young for keeping anemones. To compensate for that im checking my values everyday and supplement when necessary to keep all values stable.

My parameters are:
Salinity : 1,023
Alk/kH : 11,5
Ammonia : 0
Nitrite : 0
Nitrate : <1
PH : 8
Calcium : 460
Magnesium 1400
Iron : 0,15
K : >320
Iodine : 0,06

Im using RO water and I havent measured TDS.

Do you have any general guidelines to keeping E.quads successfully? I have read tons of material about it but always seek to learn more from people with experience.

Just as a personal preference, I usually have my salinity a little higher, at about 25-26. I think that's usually where nem ppl keep there's. Trex knows his stuff, so I'll flip by ratio to 49:51 of it being a BTA ;)

Also, I've seen nothing but negative about silversides, so maybe stay away from using those. Mysis for a nem that size works great.

Ha, you are too kind.

Yeah, I have had issues with silversides in the past. Lost an otherwise healthy H. malu to their use. Plus, E. quadricolors don't naturally eat anything even close to that. Mysis would be about as big as I would go, or some smaller krill.
