They voraciously eat algae. If you don't have algae, you should rehome him. One of our LFS actually rent out sea hares to clean up a tank and then return them.
It's hard to say...different breeds prefer different things. You could try macro algae, nori, etc. they're vegetarian so any marine plants are good to try. That said, they are very hard to keep happy and alive for long and they poop a lot so I'm not sure I'd keep it long term.
