i believe I already know, but I want to be certain.

I try my hardest not to impulse buy. I generally don't, as I know what fish and corals I like and don't like. But this I couldn't pass up.

So out at petco tonight picking up dog food, stopped by the salt section for a peek. Seen a nice anemone in the back of a tank, mouth closed, tentacle open and swaying. I search for a price. All I find is a price listing for a condy at 11.99. That's not it. Search again. Finally I ask for the price, and get told probably the condy price but they want to double check. Fine. Goes, checks, comes back and says all they have in stock is condy.

Bag it!

So out the door for 11.99! Little ticked in the bag, but will go into a well established QT tank.

@bairdimusprime

I need to get parameters so they are know. When I got the nem the mouth was shut tight. In the bag the mouth puffed out a bit. Now in the tank the mouth is open, but the muscle behind it is tight. Hasn't been in my tank long, could it still be adjusting? Tentacles are full and flowing.

I did a 75% water change before adding to have fresh water in the tank. Currently a 20 QT.

75% is a rather large water change!!
its only the 3rd day this nem has been in the tank, it's still acclimating.
can you
A. post your parameters for the tank
B. post a pic of the nem currently with the mouth open?

are there any clownfish in the tank? or any inhabitants bothering it? if there are clowns trying to use it as a host it will stress the nem out.
remember they're delicate and you want to give it as little stress as possible especially in the first week. if it hides don't try to force it out, and definitely don't try to feed it in the first 48 hours.
it has nice colors so it isnt bleached. if it constantly deflates and then refills it may be sick in which you will need to put it in a qt tank and treat with cipro.
please advise. i check my R2R hourly and will be happy to help.

I will get params shortly and a pic.

No fish are bothering it. There is a rabbit fish in the tank, but only at about 1.5 inches. I can move it if that would help. No clowns. No deflating as of yet I have seen. First few hours the tentacles were sort of deflated or limp, but ever since it has been full. Only flow is from the hob filter. I have a small rw in there I can turn on. Off because I didn't want to stress it with to much flow.

First two were at beginning of testing.

Third is at end of testing. Almost looks as if mouth closed up just a bit.

Test results
Salinity 1.025 refractometer
Ammonia 0 API
Ph 8.0 - 8.1 Salifert
Calcium 360 Red Sea
Alk 7.4 Red Sea
Mag 1400 Red Sea
Nitrate .50 Red Sea
Phosphate .02 1st test .01 second test Hanna checker

20 long tank with rock that has been in tanks for well over a year. Hydra 26 for light, but it is 24" above water line.

everything seems in line, i keep my salt at 1.026, but that's a minimal difference everything else is in line with my tanks parameters, aside from the gaping mouth its a nice LTA.
don't try to feed it. you may need to treat with cipro. petco isnt known for their healthy animals.

@Trex any advice you can lend a hand with??

I generally keep 1.026 as well. I topped off the tank about two hours before testing and that is what it read. Minimal difference I figured.

Not trying to do anything really. I added carbon, rinsed, to the hob and a new filter pad. Other then that I don't want to mess with the parameters much and tick the nem off more.

can you look under the tank? see if its foot is still attached? its expelling zooxanthellae, definitely not a happy camper...
how did you acclimate it?
you may have to pickup cipro and treat it.

I can't look under the tank, solid stand. I don't get what changed so dramatically overnight. Can carbon do that?

Can to much or to high intensity of light cause this?

Update. After giving it a bit to see if it would attach, I dug a hole and placed the foot on the glass and surrounded it by sand. In about 5 minutes it sunk down into the rock/glass/sand depression. Looking a bit better now.
