Hi guys do I know if this creature is harmful to the corals it releases long white slimes was told is stressful to corals. It's long rod shape with white too I also bought pepper shrimp and I only see more aiptasia growing #very #stressed #newbie

I think those are some type of snail, supposedly they are good, they help clean by eating leftover food. But I'm not sure if they are harmful to corals or if they can stress them. Are any close to any coral?

I'm not sure but i have heard there is 3 different types of peppermint shrimp from which only one species eats aiptaisia and you can tell by the stripes on their body.

I'm also fairly new to the hobby so I'm not 100% sure about any of what I just said lol. Let's hear from someone with more experience.

I have always used superglue. find the hole he is in, pull the rock, he will shrivel up into a little ball then cover him in glue :) gone

There is a quick way to rid all of them at one time but a lot of thought has to go into it.
They will detach and float around if the temp is higher than 95 degrees.
All my tanks have been rid of aiptasia using the heating method.
But like I said, it's up to the tank owner to use this approch

That's sounds risky very risky will everything else survive that tempt and how did u get it there???

It is risky that is why I say it takes some decision making.
Inverts are the only thing to watch for in my experience. Snails.
Never had a problem with fish and coral.
You have to raise it slow over the course of days.

K thanks will mention

I had 100-200 aiptasia in my tank a while back. Tried Berghias.....useless in my situation (perhaps too few, though I never even saw the 8 I bought again). So I got so fed up with the infestation that I took the plunge and bought a small captive-bred Aiptasia-eating filefish (aka Matted Filefish). I first had him in a small breeder net cage for a few days to get him accustomed to the tank. While in the cage, I feed him a few small Aiptasia that were in my sand. But after I released him into the tank, he didn't touch any of the Aiptasia for 2-3 weeks, at least. Then, suddenly they started to disappear, and within a 2-3 weeks, they were all gone. He has been a model citizen since then and eats most any of the foods I put into the tank. I have read that sometimes they can eat polyps and some reefers have removed them once the fish has done its job. But mine has been no trouble so far......knock on my wood stand.
