This came on a piece of live rock I brought I thought they were a type of sun polyp but they didn't look like the ones I've seen online. Thanks

They almost never close and always open is that normal? They are doing extremely well they were much smaller when first got and do I have to worry about them up overtaking the tank?
 
Mine usually don't close, I've had one of my colonies for 10 years the other for 2 years. You can cut them back fairly easily but remember they harbor much higher amounts of palytoxin I've been poisoned a couple times be careful. Or you can keep them on their own rock away from others and not worry about it.

Thanks for the info, think I'll leave them where they're at, there's nothing really around them besides some mushrooms and they look good where they're at lol
