Earlier today I saw a post regarding the green palys sometimes referred to as Texans trash is something that might not be a good choice in a tank. Because I am "green" to all this and I like the palys/zoas (are they the same thing) I want to be as safe as possible and also not invade the tank with unwanted unsafe animals.

These and Caribbean greens will over run your rock and other corals. They are very fast growers. I have the Caribbean green paly's and I've been trying to get rid of them for 4 plus years. I thought I got rid of them when I upgraded my tank and got rid of every piece of rock that I knew of them to be on and they are back in full force. I'm about to re-scape my tank in a couple of months and hopefully get rid of them for good (again).

In the picture is 2.75 years growth from the dead. The rock it came back in on was bleached and baked in the southern sun for well over a year.

Thank you... what about the other zoas that are fancy and pretty (expensive) do they grow the same? At this point I only have a few zoas.

BTW... your tank is beautiful.^
Thank you :D

There are lots of wonderful zoas and palys (and some zoa's are mistakenly listed as paly's because they're larger. In most cases you can tell the difference because paly's look to have sand dust on their stems.) I would suggest to be safe go with zoa's rather than paly's. But if you can find information on each one's growing habit you may find some really terrific looking paly's that don't spread like crazy. I have armor of God paly's and they also spread like crazy but they're also easier to frag. I also have peacock palys that aren't a super fast grower (pic below). Just do your research before buying.
