Can anyone tell me what these brown polyp looking things are growing out of my live rock?

Just some kind of zoanthid/palythoa. They are pretty ugly (opinion) and grow quickly, you can remove them if you want or let them grow if you like them.

Be carefull if removing them. That strain is known to be rather toxic. Best bet for removal is to remove the entire rock and throw it away. Scrubbing or scraping them off the rock is a recipe for disaster.

Probably not. Those palys can be rather stubborn once they find a foothold.
For information regarding the toxicity of Zoas/palys, do a quick Google search for Zoanthid poisoning.
As long as you are carefull, you'll be fine, but wanted to give a warning as there have been some rather tragic accidents with Zoas and palys

I call those button polyps, but I'm no coral expert!

I call them Texas Trash. (I live in Texas, so it's ok.) Lol. Get rid of them now before they spread. They probably contain palytoxin. Take the rock out if you can and just throw it away. Triple bag it. The risk is worth it. I've got a whole tank I have to deal with. I let it get bad, and it is BAD.

I should have mentioned the palytoxin, thanks to the others who did. If you are handling these make sure you use gloves and cover any mucus membranes (nose, mouth, eyes) and wash your hands good after. If you get a metallic taste in your mouth PLEASE go to the hospital. The stuff is no joke and just a tiny amount can be lethal.
