Hi all,
So ive looked around the internet before coming here to ask, but i cant seem to get a positive ID on this critter. He hitched a ride from my friends tank but he said he's never seen that in his tank. Its yellowish/orange with some folds on its back. To me it looks like a little slug, but im new to saltwater so i have no idea. Thankfully i dont have any coral or fish in my tank so i just want to determine whether its harmful or not. Thanks in advance !!

Nudibranch likely.... each variety is different, of course, so I don’t know about that one. But they are very cool!

Welcome to the reef!

Hi! thanks for the quick reply, i was thinking the same thing but wasnt sure. Ive read that some nudibranchs eat coral so i was hoping this type doesn't. Should i try to find it and remove it or just let it be for now?

Different nudis can eat different coral, zoas, montis, etc. Do you have coral in the tank now, if so, what kinds? Not all nudis are bad, but its hard to tell which type you have based on the picture. If you can easily see it and remove it, maybe QT it. Once they are out of sight, they may become hard to find.

Nope no coral as of yet. I thought it would be pretty cool to have a little slug running around but id rather not risk anything. If anything i can separate it and take better pictures of it when i get out of class. It seems to just stay on the peak of my rock work so i'm expecting it to be there when im back home. Ill follow up soon!
