So I removed one of these when I first got the tank from someone, thought it was just part of the rock work. This new seems to be releasing some kind of web like strands. Thank you in advance for the help!

Dont think it is a limpet this one looks more like a mussel or an oyster it isn't round

If it’s on the glass it wouldn't be a mussel or an oyster that I’ve ever seen.
Limpets are snails and that one looks like it laid some eggs....the stringy stuff.

The pictures of limpets on Google look totally different, are they something that I need to remove?

Not at all, there a good bonus for your clean up crew.
Limpets are usually conical shaped....maybe some one else could chime in and see what it is.
