I can't remember the exact name of these but they are sponges. Usually with newer tanks. The tank is healthy. I got this when I first started and I had no idea what it was but I asked and thats what they told me. Don't have them anymore.Looks like a very elongated pineapple sponge. But I've never seen one quite like that.

I think once u take a sponge out and it hits the air it dies. So if you took it out of the water just toss it its dead but if you moved it when it was in water the whole time then your goodAwesome, its going back in... my tank is about 8 months old now
