ID please

Hello everyone,

I got my first hermit yestetday and noticed these 2 worm like encrustments on the shell and thought they were empty, but today i see these fan like looking things sticking out from them. Can you please help me ID them and what should I do if they bad?

Sounds like you have feather dusters. You can remove them with a razor blade or something sharp. Just scrape them off.

Can I ask why? There's not really a need to remove them. They don't harm anything and filter feed small particulates in the water.

It’s Preference mostly, I usually leave them alone. But just wanted to provide a solution just in case you wanted them gone.
