ID Please

Just wanted to get a positive ID on these are they sponges the one is growing up from the base of my branching hammer.

Looks like harmless pineapple sponges, and perhaps other harmless sponge types.

Do they keep growing? Do I need to remove eventually?

I used to have hundreds of them and then they all moved to the sump and now I don't have any. That was probably over a couple years. Like most filter feeders, without a regular supply of floating food they don't last.

It's Poriferan sponge rendered to be harmless but can become evasive. As a filter feeder, try to prevent nutrients to reach it. If it gets out of control, can be cut away with a hobby knife.
