What the heck is this? It's got little orangey colored spikes growing from the top. My husband is convinced it's the (expired) diamond goby we got five days ago. I nudged it, and it's rather sturdy. If it is a dead fish, it's the most bizarre I've ever seen.

I really don't think that's a dead fish.

Does it move or react to stimuli in any way?

Some potential possibilities that come to mind:
- Sea Cucumber
- Sea Pen
- Tube worm
- Tube dwelling anemone
- The siphon of a mollusk

I have no idea if any of those are correct, but those are some things that I believe it potentially could be. Either way, it looks rather neat to me - particularly with the translucent tube showing what appears to be a "second" interior tube. I'd say that (assuming it's alive) you should let it grow and see what happens.

Edit: it could also be a different kind of worm like a peanut worm or something.
