While feeding my tank today, I noticed what looked like spines sticking out all alone the spine of my firefish goby, and I was able to get a really good closeup in the attached picture. Behavior is normal, and I couldn't find anything that looked like it through my searches.

Does anyone have ideas? Should I put him in qt? I can set one up in 30 minutes or less, and I keep some spare media seeded in my sump.

I’ve seen that before around a fish’s face, from biting a bristle worm - not sure how your fire fish tangled with one on its back, but here we are! No treatment for this, they usually heal up fine.

When not hanging in the current, he mostly lives inside one of my rocks alongside a nest of bristleworms, so that is absolutely possible. He could have been spaced out and floated into one that crawled by. He doesn't seem bothered by them so far so I will just watch throughout the day tomorrow.
