Hey guys, can someone help me ID these creatures in my water. I've been having an issue with dinoflagellates recently so I ordered a microscope to see if I can target the strain but to my surprise there doesn't seem to be very many in water samples taken even directly from my rocks. But then again I've only been keeping my lights on everyday for under 3 hours and theres no strands of them, the rocks are just brown/golden. Some of these also might be phytoplankton that I use to feed my pods but not 100% sure. I believe the last picture to be my most common one but strangely I haven't seen ANY movement in anything. Maybe they've gone dormant?

Do you know what they could be then?
No, I'm not recognizing anything in there. What magnification is this at? Someone with more microscope experience will post I'm sure. #reefsquad
Can we see some photos of the tank to see what this looks like with the naked eye?

Yeah I’m no expert at all on microscopes. I took them at varying magnifications like 250-1000 (huge difference I know) but I don’t really see any movement from anything. Here’s some naked eye pictures from after the light reduction.

Doesn't look like dinos. Just looks like new rock developing some life on it. I wouldn't worry about it. You could always scrub it off with a toothbrush.

Normal rock coloration as it starts developing a coating a coralline algae. Typically rock will go through various shades of green or brown before taking on the more familiar reds and purples. You’ll also notice little brown algae dots on your panels that are hard to remove. That’s coralline algae growing on your rocks and it’ll eventually change color to the prettier stuff.

How old is the tank? Dont get to paranoid to fast. Diagnosing a reef tank on the internet is like using webmd. It always says its deadly disease but truthfully it was just a cold.

Only about 3 months old. Yeah I’m hoping it’s coralline as I have seeded spores into the tank.
