Looked at my tank and noticed what looks like spots of reddish tint. Turned my whites on to get a better glimpse and dont know if its just my imagination, my paranoia, cyano or just coralline lol.

Be aware I've been dealing with a GHA bloom. Tank is 1 year old. Softies and LPS. Have 4 fish. Been noticing some nice coralline showing up in the last few months. GHA was a little out of control, so dosed a scant amount of vibrant (0.5 mL per Gallon, instead of 1 every 2 weeks). Which im discontinuing this water change.

Parameters:
Temp -- 76.6
Nitrate -- 5 salifert
Phos - 0 or 0.03 (this one is hard to tell with salifert.
DKh -- 8.3

To me that looks like GHA (Green Hair Algae). Reading ur actual post lol I realized you’re talking about the red stuff. To be sure I would try and scrape some off and see how it works. If it’s like encrusting then it’s coralline, super good, if it’s more like GHA when it breaks off and creates bubbles and strings, it’s more than likely to be cyano. Hope this helps!!

So I just tried to scrape some off. Can't scrape it off. I notice that my rocks are now showing more signs of corriline. I know I def got GHA obviously...

When will this ugly phase stop? Imma bout to buy some more snails I guess. And I just bought a fighting conch. I at one point was dosing Vibrant...but it dragged my Nitrates from 10 to 2 now, and so im stopping that as I dont need more problems. Id rather live with GHA from the time being and just do some cleaning with my WC.

But can someone explain the Ugly Phase newer tanks experience. How long it last etc?

Recent params...

Gotcha so I, like you said, definitely see coralline! Sometimes it’s purple and pink so there’s some room for colors there also :) when I had one tank running for 2 years and a mini crash in the middle, the algae started to settle off after a couple months tbh. Once I got all my equipment, and the ideal setup I wanted there was little to no algae and no growth except for my chaeto. From my experience. Once you go on a year, and you have everything (equipment wise) you plan to put on it, a month maybe two and SPS, coralline, you name it. Explosive.

All on all, stability and time play the biggest roles I think, so once u find ur way of doing it, give it a month or two and ur done. If you still see algae you can always counterbalance with snails, crabs, urchins (my favorite), etc

those are some sweet pics also!!
