I'm tagging along as well I've seen it as well especially on the bottom of zoas, mine looks like that but not as bad, small batches. Hope we can get an answer.

Hey Rob, looks to me like it could be a turf or even a calcarious algae. Anything like that growing in my tank the Kole or Yellow Tang eats and would think Emerald Crabs would as well. For better ID try taking a pic with the flash on to maybe show better detail ???

Cheers, Todd

This just started happening, not too long ago maybe a month But its starting to get on my mind more and more everyday. anyone help us out! and all the other reefers with the same problem!

Much better pic Rob, I'll see if I can get a positive ID out of one of my reference books tomorrow fro you. FAMILY TIME now so says she who must be obeyed...lol signing out............

Thanks Todd, i will be looking forward to your response, AS to i will be signing out soon but gonna try to find out what this is on the web, Driving me nuts. i hope it does not affect the zoas LPS and mainly the SPS.

If it was some sort of algae it would have to be green. I think it is some type of biofilm (bacteria). I just got a blue linckia star yesterday, beautiful animal! They are believed to eat biofilm and are def reef safe. Try one.

Sorry Rob, got sidetracked today and forgot to get back to you and this thread. Algae can be of Greens, Blues, Reds, Browns and then all the coraline algae out there. Some shoreline Macro algae that look nearly transparent and seemingly very bland are very reactive to and bright under UV light. So still thinking an algae species or possibly in the sponge family ???

Cheers, Todd

You're right Todd, algae can be of many colors. I looked at the pics and automatically thought it's not green therefore not algae. But that's obviously not true.

this stuff just started poping out of no where, now has made its way all over the rocks and frags/edges of corals that are on disks. im trying to figure out what exactly it is, so i can get it out of there. right now we have a yellow tang in there hes not even looking at it.
