ID this (possibly a coral)?

This is a piece I’d live rock from TB Saltwater. It looks like part of this (is it a coral?) died but part of it might be alive. What is it? Can I help it recover and live?

This is a piece I’d live rock from TB Saltwater. It looks like part of this (is it a coral?) died but part of it might be alive. What is it? Can I help it recover and live?

Possibly a goniopora or Alveopora coral.
