Wondering if anyone knows what this may be.

Very slimy to the touch and leave rust red/brown color. Pretty sure its not dinos or diatoms.

Its slimy like a green slimer or hollywood stunner chalice.

Its covering the fragplug of a mushroom i just bought.

I tried wiping it off with a paper towel it doesnt come off easily but very slimy to the touch.

I took the mushroom off the plug but a little is still on the piece of rubble the mushroom is attached to.
Not too concerned, it came from a known local with great tanks but id like to figure out what it is before i put in my tank. They said they think its some type of algae. Only on the one mushroom frag plug.

Possibly some type of bacteria or sponge ?

The shroom is already on a piece of rubble. that was glued to the plug.

I removed them from plug but the piece of rubble still has some of this on it

I put it in a frag/experiment tank for now see what happens befor i put it in display but id just like to know what it is if possible. Have never encountered this befor

No ideas ?

I assume most would scrub it off with a toothbrush and move on...
I did that but still want to know.

You ever see something in your tank youve never seen in your years of reefing. Then get really curious about what it could be and make post on a reefing forum ? Probably not. Thats weird...

I just meant, that's probably why no one knows...

You can use a q tip to rub peroxide on the rubble to kill off any unwanted algea. Then hit it with a toothbrush. Works great.
