ID this scary thing please

i just found this thing in my frag tank. i have never seen such thing so scary in my tank. let me know if this guy should go or stay. this thing is about .5"-.75" and with small pointing spike and lot of small thin tentacle.

ok thank for the id. you just save his life. he going back into the tank right now.
 
I'm not so sure that urchin is reefsafe. They can eat coral, and will mow down frags and small corals that are not well attached.
 
I believe this urchine is reef safe. I can't remember its name, but I still remember its white rings.
 
That is a black pencil urchin we have a bigger one and its completely reef safe, they do at times knock over corals so make sure your smaller corals are either fastened down or in a place where they can't be knocked down
 
Those are great lil guys. If you dont want him in the tank just throw him in the sump he will be happy there too.
 
Rock boring urchin. Yes he'll eat coralline. He's reef safe, won't eat corals, will knock over loose frags, and tends to be more active at night.
 
lol..no that's not true but it was a good sales pitch to get you to buy an urchin..
 
well i have had him for about 6 months and have not noticed the coralline going away. the three new rocks I got about 3 months ago are starting to get color on them. Maybe it just takes them a long time to eat it..... IDK
