Zoa ... palythoa ... dangerous (toxic) palythoa ...?

I've read that the toxic palys have white stripes ... these do not.

Does anyone know what this is? I'd appreciate any help!

Looks like palythoa. Most have toxins. Don't burn them, boil, scrub, etc. If fragging wear gloves and eye protection .

Thank you!

I don't plan on boiling, burning, or scrubbing them ... or even fragging them anytime soon. Are they otherwise safe to keep as long as I don't aggravate them?

Just so you're well aware that these palythoas will explode and grow like crazy!!

Oh, I've noticed! I've had them for about two years now ... and they are pretty quick growers compared to my other softies. They've almost doubled in size. Also, a few polyps just appeared on a neighboring rock about a week ago.

I'll keep an eye on them. If they start to get out of hand I'll carefully remove some of them.

If those have a nice yellow center with an Olive green outside they are some of the worst.
I love palys and collect them after having little luck with zoas and a flame angelfish.
But I keep that variety at the top of a steep rock so they have a harder time spreading.

One of the guys at the LFS had to remove a rock about your size covered in them to catch a fish.
They smelled absolutely horrible out of the tank and he said his hand was burning a little bit when he was done.
I had a really minor headache for about an hour after standing there for 5 minutes watching him catch the fish in the tank and then putting the palys rock back in the tank.

He went and washed his hands thoroughly and hopefully that was the end of it.

I need to ask him about it again. That was about 6 months ago.

If it had been longer than 5 minutes I don't doubt it would have been much worse.
